This little test application shows how to use anisotropic filtering for textures in OpenGL, using the extension GL_EXT_texture_filter_anisotropic. As you will see when checking the source code, this extension can be used very easily without much extra work. But you will also see that the effects of this texture filter aren't perhaps good enough to have extra GPU power spent on it.
You can move the scene using the mouse. The left object is unfiltered while the other one is. The source code is platform-independent and needs SDL to compile.
